Top 50 Algarve Hotels on Facebook – week 50


Greetings!

If you are a regular follower of the blog, you might have noticed that the blog lately received some serious hits, interactions, mentions and retweets with respect to the recent blog posts. I must say I very much appreciate the discussions and hope they will continue when launching new topics and some further controversial and provocative questions on Social Media.

To this week’s – Top 50 of Algarve Hotels on Facebook – the past week so actively challenged on its merits. J!

With the new facebook profiles recently introduced it is now also clearer that some hotels (e.g. Real Marina) are using a personal profile, instead of a company profile, which will allow then only a maximum of 5.000 fans. We have seen this happening recently with Pedras del Rei and I suppose Cabanas Park had anticipated this as they have also page with 4.610 “Fans”. To complete your info Sheraton Algarve has also a(nother) Fanpage with just 222 fans…..

  • Fan Base Increase: The list saw the total fanbase increase by 2.036 fans or an average of 41; the lowest since the conception of the list. The remarks almost follow last week’s with Vila Galé easing away with another 518 fans – almost 50% of the Top 10 fan increase. Third ranked Lagrimas Hotels trails with another 16 fans, Tivoli adding 146 and Prainha keeping up last week’s pace by adding another 122 new fans. The top 10 makes up for 53% of the Fan increase versus last week 57%. Three hotels saw their number of Fans reduce; again, for a 4th week in a row, Monica Isabel Beach Club (-9 fans), Balaia Golf Village (-4 fan) and Monte da Quinta’s (NB group page, not fan page) saw the fanbase reduce by 2.                                                                                                       

 

  • Market Share: A whopping 19 hotels increased their relative market share compared to last week with the largest increases for Prainha (+3,3%), Encosta do Lago (+2,1%) and Vila Joya (+1,9%). Aforementioned hotels having lost fans lost around 1,5% marketshare.

 

  • Ranking: Unfortunately, I did not register any new entrants. Tivoli (#6) overtook Pedras da Rainha, Dom Pedro Hotels (#13) overtook Real Marina, Encosta do Lago (#27) overtook Monte Santo, Vilajoy overtakook Hotel Oriental and Vale da Lapa overtook Pine Cliffs. As already indicated, for not operating yet, Quinta da Ombria is not mentioned on the list, but with 1.701 fans it would take 30th spot.

 

  • Remark to the Poll: The Poll in the post of 21 November raised the question if e.g. Portobay Hotels, Lagrimas Hotels and Tivoli should be on the Top 50 of the Algarve, as they also have (several) hotels outside the Algarve. The results are still indecisive for a third week in a row, currently 7 in favour of including and 7 votes wanting to exclude those and similar hotels. Keep on casting your vote!
